Extended student visa restrictions

Dear Friends,

One more important update has been announced regarding student visa applications, as a prevention of students’ “permanent temporariness”.

As you remember starting from July 1, 2024, holders of certain visas will no longer be eligible to apply for a student visa while in Australia.

Below you will find a clarified list of subclasses impacted by the restrictions:

  • Subclass 485 (Temporary Graduate)
  • Subclass 600 (Visitor)
  • Subclass 601 (Electronic Travel Authority)
  • Subclass 602 (Medical Treatment)
  • Subclass 651 (eVisitor)
  • Subclass 988 (Maritime Crew)

Additionally, previous regulations already prevented holders of visas SC 403, 426, 771 and 995 from applying for student visas.

Personally, I agree with this approach for thoughtful migration. Even if it makes process a bit harder, it also benefits you, my dear migrants, and make your stay in Australia more effective and purposeful.

You can ask me questions at any time.

Just email me at and describe your migration issues!
