Extended deadlines: more time for UK citizens – Australian career opportunity

Innovation and Early Careers Skills Exchange Pilot (IECSEP) is a new temporary visa pathway for eligible UK citizens.

This program provides new chances for UK citizens to start their careers in Australia thanks to the Australia-United Kingdom Free Trade Agreement (A-UKFTA), that making it easier for young professionals and creative thinkers.

There are two streams with no restrictions to any particular business sector.

① The Early Careers Skills stream, which will allow participants to undertake a short-term placement for up to one year in Australia. It is open to tertiary qualified applicants aged 21-45, with a minimum of three months employment in their current role. Prospective occupations in Australia must be defined at the ANZSCO Skills Levels 1-3.

② The Innovation stream will allow highly skilled and experienced participants with demonstrated contribution to innovation, to undertake opportunities for up to three years in Australia. There is no age cap. Prospective occupations in Australia must be defined at the ANZSCO Skill Level 1.

  • All applicants must have prospective employment in Australia, confirmed through a letter of offer or an employment contract.
  • IECSEP is also open to UK citizens already working in Australia.
  • 1000 places are available across both streams to June 2024, with a further 2000 places available to June 2025.
  • Australian employers are not required to sponsor applicants and labour market testing and nominated occupation lists do not apply.

The current round for the Early Careers stream has been extended and will close at 11.59pm (BST) on Sunday 30 June 2024.

Round 2 for the Innovation stream will close at 11.59pm (BST) on Sunday 30 June 2024.

Successful applicants will be provided with a letter of support to apply for a Temporary Work (International Relations) subclass 403 visa Government Agreement stream within 7 days.
