Closure of Business Migration Program?!

The final date for submitting applications for the Business Visa Subclass 188 has been announced.

All candidates must submit their applications by 31 July 2024, which essentially marks the closure of business visas for all streams – Business Innovation, Investor, Significant Investor, and Entrepreneur. Existing applications will continue to be processed without any changes.

However, the following visa opportunities remain open:

  • Holders of the SC188 visa in the Business Innovation and Significant Investor streams may continue to apply for visa extensions.
  • Family members of SC188 visa holders can also submit applications if the primary applicant who currently holds a Sc 188 visa or is granted one further to an existing application.
  • SC188 visa holders can continue to apply for the permanent SC888 visa.

The closure of the business visa stream is due to its ineffectiveness for the Australian economy and migration program. The government has decided to discontinue this stream but has hinted at a potential replacement with a more effective tool, which will be announced later.
