+2-year extension for the Graduate visa. More details

How to maximize the benefits of education in Australia?

  1. Choose a high-demand occupation.
  2. Choose a course that grants you the extended time of the Graduate visa.

Actually, we discussed both of these points: on our social media, on my website, with clients during consultations, and recently a new PDF guide with a detailed roadmap for choosing an occupation and a study course – we released our Guide in IMMI SCHOOL.

The new guide “Education in Australia” for students, schoolers, and their parents you can find the following link.

Today, I will focus specifically on the Graduate visa SC 485 extension for Post-Study Work stream, which offers excellent opportunities for international students to accumulate EOI points for skilled visas application or find an employer for a sponsored visa.

First, the good news:

  1. You can get +2 years to your Graduate visa. This may be an extension of the 485 visa or a 2-year Covid visa 408 (details below).
  2. There is an opportunity to get an additional 1-2 years for education in regional Australia.
  3. The Australian Government has released the full list of selected courses eligible for an extended Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) from 1 July 2023.  Please note the lists will be reviewed each year to respond to any changes in the Australian labour market and address any risks that emerge. Please find the current list here.

Requirements for obtaining a Graduate visa extension:

Qualification level from the list + one of the following conditions must be met:

  • You hold a Temporary Graduate visa (Post-Study Work stream) on 1 July 2023, or
  • You have lodged an application for a Temporary Graduate visa (Post-Study Work stream) by 1 July 2023, or
  • You lodge an application for a Temporary Graduate visa (Post-Study Work stream) after 1 July 2023.

If your 485 visa expires before 1 July 2023, you can still apply for this extension if you have the eligible qualification. Instead of a further Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485), you will be granted a two-year COVID-19 Pandemic Event visa (subclass 408).

Conditions for obtaining a 2-year visa 408:

Qualification level from the list + one of the following conditions must be met:

  • You hold a Temporary Graduate visa (Post-Study Work stream) on 1 July 2023, or
  • You have lodged an application for a Temporary Graduate visa (Post-Study Work stream) by 1 July 2023, or
  • You lodge an application for a Temporary Graduate visa (Post-Study Work stream) after 1 July 2023.
