Western Australia State Requirements 2023-2024

Ahead of the Department’s allocation announcement, Western Australia has provided updates on the requirements for candidates seeking state nomination for the visas SC 190 and 491.

The state has updated its website, creating a user-friendly filter for the list of in-demand occupations. You can search options by keyword, industry, visa, or stream. You can click the link The skilled occupation list

We've received a lot of information from the WA state government. Please read the following post carefully and do not be hesitate to ask your questions.

Features of WA State Migration Program 23-24

  • no application fee,
  • equal ranking of applications from Interstate and Overseas candidates,
  • prioritised invitations for candidates with an occupation in a WA industry sector with critical demand for skilled workers (building and construction industry sector),
  • reduced employment requirements for candidates invited through a WA building and construction industry sector occupation (as classified on the WA State nomination Occupation lists).
  • Occupations listed in WASMOL Schedule 1 or WASMOL Schedule 2
  • Minimum 1 year of work experience in the nominated or closely related occupation in Australia or overseas within the last 10 years (excepting for Program and WASMOL Schedule 2 candidates)
  • Employment contract: either one full-time contract or a combination of two contracts for at least 35 hours per week, valid for six months from the date of state nomination application submitted.
  • An employment contract is not required for candidates applying for the 491 visa, as well as for candidates applying for the 190 visa if they are invited through a WA building and construction industry sector occupation.

  • Completed education at a Western Australian educational institution:
    – Higher education at a bachelor’s degree level or higher
    – Vocational education and training (VET) at Certificate III level or higher
  • Full-time face-to-face studies, conducted in English, with duration at least 2 years (one course or a combination of courses)
  • The educational institution must be accredited by the state during the candidate’s study period
  • currently residing in Western Australia
  • currently residing offshore or in another Australian state or territory
  • occupations in priority WA Industry sectors: building and construction; healthcare and social assistance; hospitality and tourism; education and training.
  • occupations in all other WA industry sectors
  • highest EOI points score
  • currently residing in Western Australia
  • currently residing offshore or in another Australian state or territory
  • occupations in priority WA Industry sectors: building and construction; healthcare and social assistance; hospitality and tourism; education and training.

  • completed a PhD or Masters qualification in WA
  • completed a Honours degree or other higher degree in WA
  • completed a Bachelor degree in WA

  • oldest EOI submission date

  • completed a VET qualification at Diploma level in WA
  • a VET qualification at Certificate III or IV level in WA

  • oldest EOI submission date

Additionally, here are more important details:

  • WASOL, GOL and nomination processing timeframe may change.
  • Nomination approval does not guarantee visa granted.
  • You can only count work experience gained after you received your qualification, in paid employment, where you have worked at least 20 hours per week.
  • Up to 75% of Graduate stream nominations will be allocated to high education graduates, and up to 25% to VET graduates.
  • Candidates with a 48 bar restriction can also apply the state nomination.
  • If due to COVID restrictions, a you had online education, you need to proof of residing in WA at that time.
  • Properly completed documents receive priority processing for invitation (currently within 28 days) and nomination within the specified approximate timeframes.
  • You can request a state nomination outcome review: the request must be made within 14 calendar days.
