The South Australia Skilled Migration Program 2022-23 is open from 25 August 2022. The state’s interim nomination allocation is 2,700 places for visa SC190 and 3,180 places for visa 491.

The new skilled occupation list is one of the most extensive in the country. The skills shortage is planned to be completed by offshore talented candidates and onshore migrants currently living and working in South Australia. The number of open occupations for offshore candidates reached pre-pandemic levels.

The state government has released an updated occupation list that included more than 500 occupations. It is quite complicated and multi-level, so please explore it by yourself on the official website.

There are indicated eligible streams and additional requirements for candidate experience and location for each particular occupation in the list.

South Australia will prioritize skilled migrant nominations:

  • with experience in high-demand industries (Health, ICT, Education, Engineering, Agribusiness and Trades),
  • who can apply their skills in growing industries (Hi-Tech / Digital, Health and Life Sciences, Green Energy, Defence, Space and Cyber Security).


South Australian government is focused on onshore migrants living and working in state and skilled offshore candidates who can fill critical shortages.

 

In general, the SA skilled program can be divided into 6 streams.

Candidates requirements:

  • Living and working in SA
  • At least 50% of training completed in SA, course duration was at least 46 weeks
  • At least 1 year of residence in SA during studying
  • Have undertaken your skilled work experience post-course completion
  • At least 6666 IELTS and valid and positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation
  • Work in a nominated or related profession for at least 20 hours per week on a 491 visa and at least 30 hours per week on a 190 visa, unless otherwise noted in the list of occupations.

 

Attention! Applicants currently residing in South Australia who are approaching the expiry date of 485 visa may request priority processing. 

 

Special conditions are applied for High Performing Graduates within the special stream

  • meet the minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) specified for your nominated occupation
  • higher English requirements at least overall 7 IELTS
  • required course duration depends on degree (PhD / master / bachelor)
  • qualification in the same field as skills assessment

Candidates requirements:

  • Applicants may be temporary residents, international students, self-employed or sub-contractors living and working in SA
  • Work in the nominated or close occupation
  • Employment at least 20 hours per week
  • English at least 6666 IELTS and valid and positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation

Candidates requirements:

  • For skilled migrants working for outer regional South Australian businesses who do not qualify to apply for state nomination under South Australia’s other nomination streams
  • English at least 6666 IELTS and valid and positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation
  • Living and working in particular areas of the state*
  • Work in the last 6 months in any occupation for at least 30 hours per week
  • Visa 190 applicants’ requirements are Skill Level 1 or 2 with a high salary (at least $65,000)
  • Letter of support from your employer (additional requirements applied)

Candidates requirements:

  • Onshore or offshore applicants
  • Must register interest (ROI)
  • English at least 7777 IELTS and valid and positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation
  • Work at least 30 hours per week with a high salary (at least AUD 80,000)

 

Priority will be given for priority industry sectors or an integral part of the supply chain supporting these priority sectors: Hi-Tech / Digital, Green Energy / Hydrogen, Defence, Space and Cyber Security, Advanced Manufacturing, Agribusiness, Creative Industries, Health and Life Sciences

 

Onshore candidates:

  • Have demonstrated extensive experience, working in highly skilled jobs
  • Commenced employment in SA / Have an employment contract in SA / Have demonstrated specialised experience or niche skills that are highly desired in SA
  • There are additional requirements for the employer

 

Offshore candidates:

  • Have demonstrated extensive experience, working in senior or executive level roles
  • ​​​In internationally renowned organisations / In multinational companies with a presence in SA / Have demonstrated specialised experience or niche skills that are highly desired in one of South Australia’s critical priority sectors

Candidates requirements:

  • Living and working in the state for the last 5 years
  • English at least 6666 IELTS and valid and positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation
  • At least 12 months of work experience in the last 3 years in Carer and Aide occupation, or work in positions with Skill Level 1,2 or 3 including mandatory work within last 6 months.
  • Work at least 20 hours per week for visa 491
  • Work at least 30 hours per week for visa 190 with a high salary (at least 65,000/80,000 AUD per year)

 

Candidates requirements:

  • Make sure your SkillSelect EOI is up to date. ROI is not required
  • South Australia will be assessing candidates on merit by the factors, within the nominated occupation: years and field of skilled employment, English language ability, EOI points
  • For highly qualified candidates, the Highly skilled and Talented stream is also available
  • English at least 6666 IELTS and valid and positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation
