NSW is open for applications 2024-2025

The NSW Skilled Migration Program for 2024-2025 is now open, offering talents and professionals exciting new opportunities! More nomination spots available – up to 5,000 skilled candidates will be invited by June 2025.

The New South Wales migration office has expanded its list of priority sectors. Skilled onshore and offshore professionals in high-demand occupations will be invited to apply for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and the Skilled Regional visa (subclass 491).

The state has identified key economic sectors and occupation lists provided at the ANZSCO unit group level . Separate lists are available for each visa (190 and 491), which you can find on the official website of NSW migration office.

Currently, candidates can apply for nomination under visas 190 and 491 (Pathway 2). The criteria for Pathways 1 and 3 of visa 491 have also been announced, but applications for these pathways are temporarily not being accepted.

The application fee for NSW state nomination is 315 AUD.

Invitation rounds are expected to start soon and will continue throughout the financial year. Exact dates are have not been announced and may not be disclosed.

  • Compliance with all Department visa requirements
  • A valid skills assessment for an occupation listed on the relevant SOL and NSW priority occupation list.
  • Continuous residence in NSW or overseas for the last 6 months
  • Pathway 1 – for candidates currently employed by a regional employer in NSW

  • Pathway 2 – for candidates invited by Investment NSW

  • Pathway 3 – for recent graduates of regional NSW educational institution

  • Compliance with all Department visa requirements
  • Working in regional NSW, continuously employed for the past 6 months in the nominated or closely related occupation
  • Earning a salary at or above the TSMIT wage at the time of application
  • Compliance with all Department visa requirements
  • Occupation listed on both the SOL and NSW lists for visa 491
  • Continuous residence in NSW or overseas for at least the past 3 months
  • Compliance with all Department visa requirements
  • Completed a bachelor’s degree or above from an institution located in a designated regional area of NSW within the 2 years immediately before applying
  • Qualification relevant to the nominated occupation
  • Qualify you to claim points for ‘Study in regional Australia
  • Occupation listed on both the SOL and NSW lists for visa 491.
  • Continuous residence in NSW or overseas for at least the past 3 months

You’ll need documents clearly showing your name and address to confirm continuous residence in NSW or overseas:

  • Bank statements showing salary deposits and daily transactions for at least six months.
  • Lease or rental agreements.
  • Utility bills (e.g., gas, water, electricity).
  • Other bills (e.g., phone, internet).
  • Driver’s license or ID card.

 

Generally, a short-term trip offshore, such as a holiday, would not affect your residency status in NSW if you maintain your residence in the state.

To be eligible, you must reside in NSW on a visa that permits you to live and work in the state. Any time spent on a tourist visa will not be considered as part of the required residency period.

  • For visas 190 and 491 Pathway 2: Submit a new EOI in SkillSelect to be considered in future rounds
  • For visas 491 Pathways 1 and 3: you cannot reapply within 6 months from the date of refusal
  • Your application is generally processed within 6 weeks after payment
  • Invitations are valid for only 14 days, no extensions are permitted. You must submit documents supporting your EOI claims within this period

NSW Priority Sectors:

  • Sectors are Construction (infrastructure and housing)
  • Renewables (net zero and clean energy)
  • Care Economy (aged care and disability services, early childhood education and care sectors)
  • Digital and Cyber (across all sectors)
  • Education (teachers)
  • Agriculture and Agrifood
  • Advanced Manufacturing
