This post is for those of you who have reached your migration goal and proudly hold an Australian Permanent Resident (PR) visa. If you haven’t yet taken the step to acquire Australian citizenship and a passport – or don’t plan to – this article is especially for you.
We’ve previously explore the Resident Return Visa (RRV) in detailed article, which you can find on my website. Today’s post is just a quick reminder of the importance of staying on top of your visa status to ensure smooth traveling.
The Australian Department of Home Affairs strongly encourages all permanent residents to double-check their visa status before heading overseas, to avoid any unexpected hiccups when returning home.
Remember, your PR visa has an expiry date – typically 5 years. If it expires and you no longer have automatic re-entry rights, you’ll need to secure an Resident Return Visa before you come back to Australia.
You can check your visa details using the Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) service, it is the easiest and free way to confirm your status anytime.
Also, keep in mind that applying for an RRV, verifying visa conditions, or updating your passport details (if you’ve recently renewed it) can take some time from a few days to a few weeks.
